What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient art that has been practiced in the Middle East for centuries. Sugaring is a holistic and natural approach for tackling unwanted body and facial hair. Sugaring uses 100% natural ingredients which are water, lemon juice and sugar. It is effective and beneficial for the skin and it is a better alternative for permanent hair removal. It also exfoliates the skin, leaving it smooth and supple and less irritated than other forms of hair removal. Sugaring is performed by applying a ball of sugar paste against the natural direction of hair growth. Then, in the same direction of hair growth, a method known as the “flicking technique” is used to remove the hair from its root, as well as any dead skin cells. The same ball of sugar continues to be re-applied over and over again until all of the unwanted hair is removed.

Why choose sugaring?

  • ALL NATURAL- Sugar is holistic and made from organic ingredients that are all safe to eat! It is also hypoallergenic and great for all skin types.

  • TOTALLY SANITARY- Sugar doesn’t breed any bacteria and there is no double dipping which eliminates the risk of cross contamination.

  • NOT HOT- The sugar does not need to be heated at a high temperature. It only heats up to the body temperature so it does not burn the skin at all.

  • LESS PAINFUL- Sugaring is less painful than other forms of hair removal because it only sticks on dead skin cells. There is less risk of ingrown hairs or bruising and virtually no risk of abrasion or tearing.

  • WATER SOLUBLE- Sugar is super easy to clean because it wipes up with water, so it’s not messy and there is no sticky residue left on the skin.

  • Take off clothing that covers the area to be sugared and get on the table. Don’t be shy, your technician is a professional, and they’ve seen it all before!

  • Prior to the sugaring, communicate any preferences on what you do or do not want sugared.

  • To start, the technician will cleanse the area.

  • Before applying the paste, we will apply powder to protect, magnify. and make hairs stand out.

  • To apply the sugaring paste, the technician will use a single ball of paste, applying it against the grain of hair growth and then lightly tugging in the opposite direction.

  • After the sugaring is complete, the technician will apply a toner to soothe and clean the area and moisturizer to hydrate, soothe, and help prevent ingrown hairs.

  Is it painful?

  • The pain from sugaring is person dependent: some people find it painful some people find it not painful at all. Sugaring is usually considered less painful than waxing because the mixture doesn’t adhere to the skin.

What To Expect

Contraindications:

Sugaring is exfoliating. It is therefore extremely important to read these contraindications before getting a service:

  • Clients who are on or have been on Accutane in the last six months cannot be sugared.

  • Sunburned, irritated, or areas with open skin cannot be sugared.

  • You must wait a minimum of seven (7) days after a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment before being sugared in that area.

  • Sugaring cannot be performed if you have been in a tanning booth on the same day

Pre/Post Care

Pre Care:

  • Exfoliate the skin a minimum of 2 days before your appointment. Do not exfoliate the day before, the day of or the day after.

  • Do not apply deodorant if getting underarms sugared.

  • For best results, hair should be at least a 1/4 of an inch long.

  • Hair should not be excessively long (4-5 weeks without shaving is too long).  We ask you to please trim back SLIGHTLY for your comfort, prior to your appointments.  If we have to trim there will be an extra charge for that

  • Please come with clean dry skin. Avoid using any powders, cream or lotions to the area being sugared the day of your treatment.  We do have complimentary wipes for you to use at the time of your service.

  • Do not use razors or depilatory creams between treatments, as this will interfere with your goal to refine and diminish your hair growth, and to have smooth, healthy skin.

  • Remember extraction of the hair at 1/8″ or less on a regular basis leads to permanency.

  • Avoid direct heat such as hot baths, or sun tanning the day of your treatment.

**If you currently:**

  • Razor/Shave – Allow at least 10-14 days of regrowth before getting sugared.

  • Wax – Allow 4 weeks of regrowth before getting sugared.

  • Sugar – 4-6 weeks of regrowth.

Post Care

Things to avoid in the first 24 hours while healing:

  • Do not apply any scented lotions or creams - these may irritate the skin

  • Do not exfoliate the skin for 48 hours after treatment

  • Heat (including saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga studios)

  • Direct sunlight, tanning beds and infrared lamps

  • Working out (skip the gym for the day)

  • Touching, scratching or rubbing the treated area

Start exfoliating the skin 2 days after the sugaring treatment every 2-3 days. To exfoliate you can use a bristle body brush or nylon glove and move in a circular motion. For the more sensitive areas like the bikini or Brazilian use a coffee or sugar scrub. In order to keep skin hydrated, make sure to moisturize with a lotion or cream that is all natural.

  • After 48 hours you can begin to exfoliate 2-3 times a week in the shower or bath. Exfoliation promotes circulation and most importantly, frees the skin of excess build-up which often results in ingrown hair. Exfoliating allows the sugaring treatment to be less troublesome and results in a timely session as dead or dry skin can accumulate.

  • Regularly cleanse and moisturize your skin.

  • To get the best results from sugaring, its best to remove hair during the anagen stage(1st stage). This is typically 3-6 weeks after your last appointment, but can vary from person to person. Be consistent with your treatments for best results, regular maintenance lead to permanency and more consistent results

  • Enjoy your smooth silky skin.
